Acne is a multi-factorial skin disease in which genetic, hormonal, climatic and stress factors all play a role. It usually persists as a self-sustaining condition for which chronic skin inflammation is responsible. A rational approach based on the degree of involvement of each of these factors provides a cure for acne. Acne treatment generally requires three to six months’ commitment, i.e., regular use of prescribed medications. There are no restrictions imposed on daily activity including diet. For facial acne, a simple skin care regimen consisting of serial application of topical agents is prescribed to minimize skin irritation. We offer medications from Europe and Japan, as well as our own products, to treat all kinds of acne. Severe therapy-resistent acne may require oral isotretinoin (Accutane®, Roaccutane®) or cyproterone acetate/ethinyl estradiol (contraceptive pill for acne patients). Glycolic acid treatment are often successfully applied to intractable facial acne. Highly effective topical agents are also available for localized mild acne.
acne & rosacea
Rosacea is a common cause of the red face, associated with hypersensitivity to bacteria. It normally responds well to drugs with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, such as topical metronidazole and oral minocycline. As its historic name “acne rosacea” suggests, it may be accompanied with eruptions similar to acne, which are likewise treated.
